Teya
Wolvington began her creative arts career at the tender age of three
when she joined the theater gymnastics troupe Do Jump, at Echo Theater
in Portland, OR. There, she was exposed to the exciting world of movement
though the exploration of the trapeze, climbing ropes, and tumbling.
At the age of twelve, her parents, wanting a change of scenery from
the dreary rain of Portland, uprooted and dragged Teya to the brilliant
sunshine of Santa Fe, NM. Begrudgingly she began dancing as a means
of meeting people outside of school. However, she found that dance came
naturally and fell in love with it immediately. After training in both
ballet and modern at a local studio for six years, she decided to pursue
her passion for dance further by attending the renowned University of
Utah Modern Dance Department. There, she was a member of Orchesis Honor
Society, Performing Dance Company, and worked with several prominent
dance artists such as Hope Clark, David Dorfman, Doug Elkins, Molissa
Fenley, Alberto del Saz, Sara Pearson, and Patrik Widrig. She received
her B.F.A. in May 2005, and is thrilled to be dancing with Benita.
